Emotional intelligence gives us the ability to manage our own emotions and positively influence the emotions of others. The Four Components of EI There are four components of emotional intelligence. The first two are based on the ability to recognize and understand our emotions and then manage how those emotions are displayed. Self-Recognition and Self-Management represent these components. The third and fourth components of emotional intelligence are based on the ability to read and interpret the emotions and behaviors of others, then flexibly adapt to honor their emotional state and needs.
